Ubisoft initially claimed that this wave of shutdowns was meant to allow the publisher more room to focus on newer or more popular titles, but fans of the older Ubisoft games in question were naturally upset at the thought of losing access to content that they paid for - even if the nature of online game sales means that these players only ever purchased a license to said content rather than the content itself.
